What is Kindle Unlimited
Amazon Kindle is an electronic reading device that allows users to browse, buy, download, and read books, magazines, newspapers and other content anytime anywhere.
First introduced in 2007, it provided instant access to the world’s largest bookstore on Amazon and quickly grew to become one of the most successful reading innovations of the 21st century.
This success led to the creation of the Kindle Unlimited service, a standalone subscription-based service that provides unlimited access to over two million titles, thousands of audiobooks, select magazines, newspapers and comic books on demand.
Unlike the Kindle service which was tied to Amazon’s devices, Kindle Unlimited allows you to read anytime, on any device, with the Kindle App. Yes, even your phone! Which is super handy for waiting rooms, waiting whilst you pick up the kids or even catching the bus on the way home from work.
Since its launch in 2014, Kindle Unlimited has blossomed into one of the most popular membership programs offered by Amazon. Its success is large as a result of a super-precise service offering (which also doubles as its tagline): Unlimited Reading. Unlimited Listening. Any Device.
Why get Kindle Unlimited?
If, like me, you like reading then it’s a no-brainer. A Kindle Unlimited subscription will set you back $9.99 per month, or $119.98 per year (USD). Unfortunately, it isn’t included with an Amazon Prime subscription, so you will have to pay extra even if you are a Prime member. Although Prime membership does afford you some free reading as well.
If you are unsure of whether Kindle Unlimited is what you need, you can sign up for a free 30-day trial to test it out beforehand. Its book subscription model allows users to borrow up to 10 books, audiobooks and magazines from a vast library of reading material.
The Kindle Unlimited dashboard showcases featured items to borrow with suggestions tailored to your browsing history. This makes it an ideal way to discover new books and reading material in line with your tastes.
There are some limitations though...
It is important to note that even though there are plenty of books to choose from, you don’t have access to every book out there. Most books on Kindle Unlimited are self-published titles from up-and-coming authors who want to gain more exposure. And I’ve opted to have most of my books enrolled in Kindle Unlimited so you can read them for free, if you choose to go with KU.
There are a few bestsellers available, such as the Harry Potter, Hunger Games, and Atlantis Gene series. So, if you’re hoping to read lots of bestsellers from mainstream authors then you may have to explore the available library before subscribing
A Kindle Unlimited subscription allows you to read as much as you want, as often as you want with no due dates. These books can be read on any internet enabled device using the Kindle app. This is a good way to explore new authors, books, and genres.
